BSNL 4-G services in city soon

A total of 100 new 4-G towers have been sanctioned to Visakhapatnam Telecom District.

The public sector telecom service provider – BSNL – will soon introduce 4-G services in the city besides augmenting the 3-G sites in rural areas, Senior General Manager, Visakhapatnam Telecom District Nalini Verma said.

A total of 100 new 4-G towers have been sanctioned to Visakhapatnam Telecom District. A total of 60 new 3-G towers have been sanctioned for the rural areas in addition to the 35 ongoing 3-G towers, which were in various stages of execution. These include: 4 each at Araku and Bheemunipatnam, 2 at Anakapalle, Balacheruvu – 1 and 6 each at Chodavaram, Narsipatnam, Paderu and Elamanchili, the Senior GM said an Open House organised at Velampeta Telephone Exchange here on Tuesday evening.

Mega mela

She explained the features of the free call diversion facility from BSNL mobile to landline, free night calling facility from BSNL landline and the free incoming facility on BSNL mobile while on national roaming. A mega mela, for delivery of mobile SIMs, was being simultaneously conducted at 40 centres in the district as part of the concept to take ‘BSNL services nearer to the customer’, on Wednesday.

Additional General Manager G. Adam said there were 96,000 landline connections in Visakhapatnam Telecom District as against the installed capacity of 1.60 lakh connections. There were 44,000 broadband connections as against the installed capacity of 66,000 connections.

Assistant General Manager B. Ravindra Kumar gave an overview of the initiatives taken by BSNL to serve the customers better. He stressed on the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) to retain the old number while shifting from other operators to BSNL, DND feature, which enables customers to save themselves from unwanted marketing calls and the CDR billing facility which enables them to pay their bills from anywhere in the country. Sub Divisional Engineer (Marketing) Satya Prasad detailed about the marketing plans, designed to meet the requirements of various groups.

Deputy General Managers M. Mallikharjuna Rao and Atcham Naidu and Divisional Engineer Prasada Rao spoke.

The customers appreciated the services of BSNL but some of them regretted unsolicited marketing calls even on BSNL landline numbers, difficulties in making online payment of bills and frequent disruption of lines due to use of old equipment.
