The collapse of the joint family system and the widening generation gap and its influence on family bonding have been beautifully captured by cinematographer Madhu Mahankali in the Telugu film Parampara , which is his full-fledged directorial debut.
Pawan, a high school boy, nurtures a desire to become a shuttle badminton player. He shows promise in the game and, on the advice of his teacher, wants to enrol himself for training classes. His father, a middle-class government employee, who is weighed down by his own problems at the office, thinks otherwise.
Pawan fails to understand his dad’s apathy in supporting his life’s ambition. His dad decides that education is the best option without even trying to know what is on his son’s mind. The problems in office result in his neglecting the family.
During a short visit to their ancestral village, Pawan stumbles upon some poems, written by his dad in his college days. Curiosity gets the better of Pawan and he decides to dig the truth. Pawan’s father reminisces as to how he had to give up writing poetry on the insistence of his father, who wanted him to take up a job and support the family.
“A person can perform his best in the field in which he has an interest or liking,” he says, as a matter of fact. Without a second thought, Pawan asks: “Then why don’t you allow me to pursue my dream in badminton?”
The father realises as to how he has neglected his son and his desires all these years due to his professional problems. He decides to support his son’s ambition and make him a national player. He begins spending quality time with his son. Pawan also notices the change in his dad and begins to understand and love him more.
A road accident turns their world topsy-turvy.
Senior actors Naresh and Aamani (as Pawan’s father and mother) and veteran actor Raavi Kondala Rao as Pawan’s grandfather do justice to their characters.
Parampara (with English sub-titles) bagged the platinum award in the feature film category at the International Movie awards festival held in Indonesia in October this year.
The film is slated for release in Visakhapatnam on December 6.
