The fourth BRICS Summit is to be held in New Delhi on March 29
Representatives of China, the Russian Federation and South Africa, at an international conference on BRICS and the new world economic order organised by GITAM School of International Business here on Saturday, said the BRICS countries would play a leading role in world's economy, peace and other areas in future.
The conference was held to make deliberations that would generate perspectives and give pointers for consideration in the fourth BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Summit to be held in New Delhi on March 29.
Minister-Counsellor of Chinese Embassy Deng Xijun in an elaborate address discussed the BRICS' influence on the world and the role it could play in the changing world scenario. BRICS should play a major role in maintaining peace and stability in the world along with promoting common development of all countries, improve international exchange and cooperation and strengthen the BRICS partnership for common development. BRICS have been exerting important influence in the political and security aspects. “The BRICS as a new model of global economic cooperation and an important way of pursing multilateralism, can continue to play an active role in boosting cooperation among emerging market economises”, he said.
Mr. Deng Xijun also noted that while the new changes in global economic governance, scientific and technological innovation, etc. provided great opportunities of development for all countries, there was political instability in some parts and financial crisis still has its impact.
Consul General of Russian Federation in Southern India Nikolay A. Listopadov expressed satisfaction that BRICS, initiated by Russia was progressing well and became an important organisation in the world. The BRICS were endowed with rich natural resources and the five countries should combine their efforts to strengthen financial and other sectors, Dr. Listopadov said explained about Russia's help to India in setting up the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, the metro project proposed in Chennai, etc. Through BRICS world peace and stability could be achieved and the organisation would be helpful in securing an equitable, vibrant and peaceful world, said Director of South Asia Directorate of South Africa (Pretoria) Pheko Weeto. BRICS was playing a catalytic role in the new economic era, he said.
President of GITAM University M.V.V.S. Murthi hoped the deliberations here would contribute to peace, security, development and cooperation. Dean and Director of GSIB V.K. Kumar and Vice-Chancellor of GITAM University G. Subramanyam also spoke.
