Boat operators seek increase in diesel subsidy

Visakha Dolphin Boat Operators’ Welfare Association (VDBOA) has appealed to the State government to enhance subsidy on diesel to all mechanised fishing boats. In a representation to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, association president Ch. Satyanarayana Murthy and general secretary D. Ganga Raju said enhanced subsidy should be given up to consumption of 4,500 litres per month.

While thanking Mr. Naidu for extending wholehearted support for welfare of fishermen, they said 50% of boats were not covered under subsidy scheme.

Fishing could contribute more foreign exchange and benefit more if the subsidy benefit was given to boats registered in all plan periods. The total budget required for this is estimated at ₹30 crore.
