Celebrating the camaraderie and spirit of service that drives the jawans and officers of the Central Reserve Police Force was evident in the blood donation camp organised by the Blood Bank of the King George Hospital here on Thursday.
The uniformed forces are not only ready to draw blood and shed their own blood for the sake of peace and security of the country but are also willing to donate blood to help a needy person survive. This was the underlying spirit behind the more than 50 jawans and officers who donated blood at the camp organised at the Prahlada Kalyana Mandapam here where the city headquartered 198 Battalion CRPF is stationed.
Most of the men and officers of the battalion regularly donate blood but it was the first time they were doing so in a camp organised to mark the Seventh Raising Day of the City-based 198 Battalion, Deputy Commandant Aravind Dixit told The Hindu . The enthusiasm of the donors was infectious and many more jawans trooped in to volunteer. Commandant Nisheet Kumar and his deputy Aravind Dixit and other senior officers were keen on donating blood, which motivated other jawans to join the queue. The KGH team was led by medical officer of KGH Blood Bank Raj Gurbuxani and ably supported by student volunteers from the Andhra Medical College.
Earlier on Wednesday night the jawans and officers of the battalion enjoyed a gala cultural evening with song and dance performances by the jawans and members of their families. The celebration ended in a ‘Bara Khana’ in which Commandant Nisheet Kumar, other officers and former SP Vizianagaram Karthik, among others, participated.
