There is no scarcity of water in Maruti Nagar, which forms part of Sitammadhara North Extension. But, blocked drains and overflowing garbage bins cannot escape one’s attention.
Women of the colony say that maintenance is something which needs more focus.
“We keep calling GVMC officials to clear the clogged drains and dustbins. However, the situation remains same for weeks, and a portion of the colony’s maintenance is taken up by private players,” says Vijaya Lakshmi, a resident.
With Tamil Kalai Mandram being a landmark here, residents say that most visitors park their vehicles right in front of their houses, especially during events at the venue.
Fitness freaks find the place ideal to turn up in track suits and step into the local parks for a brisk walk.
While most residents find the neighbourhood quiet and charming, some of them say that the place is often visited by snakes, scorpions, and centipedes.
“A few weeks ago, a big snake entered our house. It took a while for us to drive it away. This apart, scorpions and centipedes are a common sight here,” says Pundarikaksha, who has been living in the colony for the last two decades.
With a bus stop and an auto stand located close to the colony, people say that commuting to places has never been a problem.
Despite regular night patrolling, there are a few complaints of theft in the locality.
“Earlier, the colony used to be a theft-free zone. Of late, we have been hearing a few cases of theft. Recently, my neighbour’s gas cylinder was stolen,” adds Lakshmi, a housewife.
