Motorcyclists, particularly those riding black Bajaj Pulsars, are on the police radar in view of the growing incidents of chain snatching in the city.
The city police, on the directions of Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy, conducted checks at various junctions on Thursday. In the past, the snatchers came on black Pulsars and covered their heads either with helmets or cloth to avoid detection. They targeted women who were walking on sparsely populated streets, hardly giving the victims a chance to note down the number of the vehicles.
Bike theft cases and chain snatching are interlinked as the snatchers were mostly using stolen bikes, according to Additional DCP (Crime) S Varada Rajulu. “The high power of the Pulsar seems to have found favour with the snatchers so that they could escape in a jiffy,” he added. Motorcyclists riding Pulsar bikes suffered the most as the police personnel were instructed to thoroughly check the number plates and documents of these vehicles.
Mr. Shivadhar Reddy is optimistic that some clues would be found during the current drive.
