While the passage of the Bill saw celebrations in Telangana, there was a sense of despondency among people of Seemandhra, BJP city unit president P.V. Narayana Rao said.
The BJP has been able to ensure that some of the issues of concern of people of Seemandhra are addressed during a discussion on the AP Reorganisation Bill-2013 in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, party State vice-president B. Ranga Mohan has said.
Addressing the media here on Friday, the BJP leader said that by giving notice for amendments to the Bill, the BJP was able to discuss and get assurances from the Centre on issues such as Polavaram project and funding of budget deficit, among others.
“In the prevailing circumstances, at least 50 per cent of the issues have been addressed,” he claimed.
While the passage of the Bill saw celebrations in Telangana, there was a sense of despondency among people of Seemandhra, BJP city unit president P.V. Narayana Rao said. The way the Congress handled the issue only increased the apprehensions among people that they would have to lose a lot. The party leaders from the region had impressed upon the Central leadership to ensure that these issues were addressed before allowing the Bill to be passed.
The manner in which the Bill was introduced and then passed in the Lok Sabha without discussion only raised doubts among the people of the region whether their concerns would even be addressed.
Thanks to the BJP, some discussion did take place in the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Ranga Mohan said.
The BJP, which was sure to return to power at the Centre, would address all the concerns of the people of Seemandhra, he asserted.
Party leaders J. Prithviraj, P.V.N. Madhav, Viswanath Raju, and Narendra Prakash were present.
