BJP alleges presence of outsiders

BJP Andhra Pradesh president and Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha nominee K. Hariababu has alleged that thousands of people from Kadapa and neighbouring districts have come to the city and are staying in various hotels and private places.

Some of them were said to be anti-social elements, he said in a letter to the District Collector and Returning Officer.

Mr. Haribabu asked him to take immediate action to prevent any untoward incidents that was likely to take place due to their presence and ensure free and fair polling in the constituency.

Objects to meeting

Citing a programme of Y S Vijayamma, YSRCP nominee for the Lok Sabha, published in a daily, he said it was clearly indicated that she would hold a meeting with pastors at a city hotel at 1 p.m. on Monday. Canvassing for franchise of votes on the basis of religion was prohibited under the Representation of People’s Act 1950 and amounted to an election offence, he said and wanted action to be taken according to law.
