A few activists of Telugu Yuvatha on Monday made a vain bid to “inaugurate” the Asilmetta flyover.

Accompanied by a ‘nadaswaram’ troupe and with posters of TDP a handful of activists reached the flyover in the morning. However, they are far outnumbered by police.

After an argument, four of them, including Telugu Yuvata city president Lodagala Krishna and Sanapala Panduranga Rao, were taken into preventive custody.

The flyover, work on which went on for more than four years, has been declared ready for inauguration by the GVMC.

Officials have said it will be thrown open for use by public pending formal inauguration. Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao also said a few days ago that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy would inaugurate it.
