Bid to ‘defame’ girls lands them behind bars

Two youths, one of them a juvenile, who allegedly tried to ‘wreak vengeance’ on different girls for being ‘rejected’ have not only landed behind bars but also have shattered their dreams of a bright future.

Shooting himself in the foot by trying to defame the woman who ‘rejected’ him, a 21-year-old B Tech first year student A.S. Sangwan allegedly created a fake Facebook account on the victim’s name, posted her photo, impersonated her and also sent offensive and obnoxious messages through a web-based SMS portal. With his moves he harassed the woman causing her mental agony. The victim lodged a complaint with Malkapuram police, who was transferred the case to Cyber Crimes Investigation Cell, ADCP Crime Varadaraju told the media here on Sunday.

On Sunday the Cyber Crimes Investigation Cell arrested the accused and seized from his possession the laptop, wireless modem and mobile phone used in the crime. He has been charged with sending defamatory, vulgar, obscene, threatening offensive messages through e-mail/ electronic form under Section 66 A of the IT Act 2000-2008. He faces imprisonment of three years along with a fine. He has also been charged under Section 66-C of the IT Act, under which he faces imprisonment up to three years and a fine up to Rs 1 lakh. In another case a juvenile, studying intermediate, was apprehended by the Cyber Crime Police after the father of an intermediate studying girl lodged a complaint with the III Town Police that a fake Facebook account had been created in his daughter’s name and obnoxious and offensive messages were posted on it.

The juvenile was apprehended on Sunday and his confession recorded under the cover of mediators Report. The police have registered cases under sections 66-A and 66-C of the IT Act, the ADCP said.
