Children riding bicycles launched in the pilot project of Bike-Share on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

Under Smart City Bike-share pilot project, 100 bicycles will be made available on Beach Road.

The bicycles-25 each- will be stationed at YMCA, Pandurangapuram, Kalimata Temple and Veerabrahmendra Swamy statue on Beach Road. Under the Bike-share project they will be made available free of cost for now.

The bicycles can be used by downloading Hexi mobile app and returned at any of the four locations.

Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan, who visited Beach Road and bike-share locations, on Friday appealed to people to make use of the bicycle to burn fat and improve health.

The Smart City staff will help guide people in getting the bicycles from the locations.

However, an official concerned said the bicycles could be used by those downloading the app. An alternative like the prepaid card is also being worked out. The bicycles will be given free of cost for the first five days after downloading.

After that charges will be collected and they have not been decided yet.

Assistant Director (Horticulture) Damodar and Executive Engineer Sudhakar participated.
