Assets and properties worth over ₹5 crore unearthed

Bheemunipatnam Tehsildar B.T.V. Rama Rao was taken into custody on Wednesday by the Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The raid reportedly unearthed assets and properties worth over ₹ 5 crore.

The raids were conducted by the ACB officials at four places in Visakhapatnam, two in Hyderabad and one in Rajamahendravaram.

According to Mr. Ramakrishna Prasad, the documents seized included a three-storied house in Akkayyapalem, one house in Vepagunta on 150 sq yds, one house site measuring 222 sq yds at Vepagunta, two apartments in Narasimha Nagar, two floors of commercial space in Kapparada, two floors of shopping space in Butchirajupalem (all in Visakhapatnam) and two apartments in the names of his two sons-in-law in Hyderabad. This apart, the ACB officials seized ₹ 13.4 lakh cash from his house at Akkayyapalem and ₹. 28.97 lakh cash from the house of his elder son-in-law at Rajamahendravaram.

ACB officials also reportedly found bank balance to the tune of ₹. 56 lakh in the name of the officer and his family members (wife, two daughters and two sons-in-law), 1 kg of gold in his house at Akkayyapalem.

Rama Rao joined the department as steno in 1986 and was elevated to the post of Deputy Tehsildar in 2011.

The Tehsildar primarily made the money by allegedly collecting ₹ 65,000 for the release of each pattadar passbook from the owners.
