Benefits of government programmes should reach the poor and downtrodden in rural areas through proper implementation of all welfare schemes, Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament D. Purandeswari has said.

At a review meeting of the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee for Rural Development Programme on the District Collector's office premises on Saturday, she said people's representatives should monitor progress of all schemes regularly and give instructions to officials to ensure proper implementation.

The NREGS should be used properly and the Remote Areas Development scheme taken to the beneficiaries to ensure the lot of rural poor could improve their living standards.

Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju wanted proper chlorination done during current season in all the water supply schemes as incessant rains had polluted the sources to large extent. He also took stock of the implementation of Swarnajayanthi Gram Swarojgar Yojana.
