In view of the tourist season and increasing visitors to the city beaches apart from the ongoing Navy Week celebrations, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has taken up the beach beautification programme near Ramakrishna Beach.

With the GVMC stopping urban sewage water from flowing into the storm water drains and channels and diverting it to the sewage treatment plant (STP), the civic body has started the beach beautification programme.

The insensitive public and the unplanned growth of the city saw most households let off their sewage and waste water into the storm water drains and natural water channels that criss cross the terrain.

The GVMC has diverted the urban waste water to its STP near Appu Ghar. With this the GVMC has ensured that the channels at the beach only carry rainwater runoff. Under the directions of the GVMC Zonal Commissioner work is on to level the sand to its natural level and ensuring that the visitors to the beach can enjoy sitting in the sands that are not murky with urban sewage, sanitary inspector M Shyam Sundar Rao explained.
