With an aim to raise awareness about the need to protect the environment, various organisations conducted programmes to mark World Environment Day on Monday. A beach clean-up drive was organised by NGO Wings for Life Foundation at Tenneti Park beach. Collector Pravin Kumar along with members of other city based NGOs, organisations and health clubs participated in the programme. In order to keep the city beaches clean, Wings for Life will be carrying out similar beach cleanup drives on a weekly basis, said Jyothirmayi Mukthineni, founder of the foundation.
Sirisha R S, director of Arena Events, sports event management company, members of Kalpavruskh Trust, Rotaract Club, Rohit Memorial Trust, 5AM Club, and JCI Port City participated in the programme.
Malabar Gold and Diamonds, Visakhapatnam, distributed plants to all their customers on Monday. Store director Tasheel informed that ‘Connecting People to Nature’, the theme for World Environment Day 2017, implored everyone to appreciate nature and its importance and to take forward the call to protect the Earth. This year, it distributed around 1,000 plants among the customers and organised events across its showrooms in AP and Telangana.
Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI), Andhra Pradesh State branch, organised a garbage collection and cleaning initiative at Dr. V.S. Krishna College. P.L.K. Murthy, brand ambassador for Swachh Bharat initiative, Ch. Sreenivasa Prasad, State chairman, YHAI A.P. State branch, P. Kondala Rao, programme director, and other participated in the programme.
