The call given by the APNGOs Association to observe a bandh, in protest against the tabling of the State Reorganisation Bill in Parliament, was partial and peaceful in the city on Thursday.
Some of the schools declared a holiday but most functioned normally. RTC buses, autorickshaws and other vehicles plied as usual. Shops and business establishments were open at most of the places in the city.
NGO leaders and workers went round the city and forced the closure of government offices and banks. They raised slogans demanding that the state should be kept united.
At Old Jail Road junction, the NGO activists staged a protest with banners at the traffic circle for sometime. Traffic was, however, not disrupted.
YSR Congress leaders and activists staged a protest at Jagadamba junction and forced the closure of shops. They also organised a dharna at NAD Kotha Road junction.
Telugu Desam leaders and activists staged protests and burnt pictures of the Prime Minister, UPA Chairperson and other Congress leaders to protest against tabling of the Bill in Parliament.
