Bandh of Govt. offices total in Vizag

December 18, 2009 12:53 pm | Updated 12:53 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM

The bandh called by the Telugu Desam Party in all offices of State and Central governments, local bodies and commercial banks on Friday was near total.

TDP workers stormed the Collectorate in the morning and ensured that the employees came out. Even the State Bank of India branch functioning in the premises had to be closed down.

The same situation prevailed at the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation where the functioning was stalled and near closure was effected. The TDP cadres were seen going round all government offices in the city and urging them to cooperate with them by downing the shutters.

The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM)’s office of Waltair Division in the city, however, functioned with the help of a strong contingent of Railway Protection Force and police in riot gear posted inside the premises.
