Minister for Roads and Buildings Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu has attacked the involvement of political leaders in encroachments of valuable lands and other land-related irregularities in and around Visakhapatnam.

Mr. Ayyanna Patrudu said land-grabbers from other parts were exploiting the goodness of the people and indulging in encroachment of government land or that of NRIs who had purchased lands with their hard-earned money or land belonging to ex servicemen. The R&B Minister was speaking at the ‘Nava Nirmana Deeksha’ programme of the State government on Friday.

The R&B Minister also assailed the nexus between political leaders and officials citing the ACB case against an R&B Chief Engineer whose assets crossed ₹150 crore.

Even tahsildars were caught with assets worth ₹40 crore, Mr. Ayyanna Patrudu said adding irregularities were taking place because of officials joining hands with political leaders.

Those indulging in encroachment of land and other irregularities and they should be driven away, he said at the “deeksha” programme at VUDA Children Theatre.

Officials lauded

However, Mr. Ayyanna Patrudu lauded the efforts of the Collector, the Joint Collector and the Police Commissioner in protecting valuable lands and assured the administration of his support in the effort.

Mr. Patrudu made strong comments on irregularities in land dealings in and around the city on Tuesday too and wanted an IAS officer appointed to look into people’s complaints.

The State government announced a public hearing into complaints of land-grabbing and official connivance in tampering with records.
