Keeping the surroundings clean and free from water stagnation, clearing choked drainage at regular intervals, drinking protected water, and avoiding dumping of garbage in drains were some points stressed by a large number of volunteers who lined up to spread awareness on malaria and dengue, and measures to help reduce seasonal diseases at the rally organised by the District Medical and Health Department on Friday.
The rally was flagged off by district Collector V. Seshadri along with DMHO R. Shyamala at Kalabharati Auditorium.
Awareness drive
The focus of the procession was to educate people and make them understand the importance of maintaining healthy environment, explained Dr. Shyamala, who walked down till Swarna Bharathi Auditorium, where the rally concluded.
A group of trainees from Care Waltair College of Nursing, Sagar Durga School of Nursing, and Saint Anthony College of Nursing, apart from community health volunteers and medical officers, participated by displaying placards, raising slogans, and sharing measures to control malaria and dengue diseases.
Some of the medical officers were seen sharing information on the importance of fogging and use of mosquito nets and ensuring hygiene to help prevent malaria, dengue, and other mosquito-borne diseases.
