The Academic Senate of Andhra University which met here on Thursday, approved introduction of some new courses, rise in number of seats in some programmes while putting on hold proposals on some new courses.
Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju, in his inaugural address gave details of university’s activities, ISO inspection team’s assurance to renew the ISO certification to the university, renewal of MoUs and awards received by the faulty members. This was the first Academic Senate meeting Prof. Raju presided after taking charge as Vice-Chancellor.
The Academic Senate approved introduction of two-year M.Sc. (electronics) in the place of three-year M.Sc. (tech) with an intake of 60 students in electronics and instrumentation, VLSI desing and DSP and ESD specialisations.
The number of seats in M.Sc. (tech) geophysics, marine geophysics and hydrology have been increased and the increased seats come under the self-finance category. Seats in M.A.(HR) were doubled from 20 to 40.
The M.Sc. (marine chemistry) programme was dispensed with and the intake into M.Sc. (physical chemistry) would go up from 20 to 26, including six seats under SF category. Number of seats in M.Sc. (food and nutrition) was also gone up from 10 to 15.
The internal assessment marks for distance education courses were increased from 15 per cent to 20 per cent.
Proposals to start M. Pharmacy courses in private colleges was put on hold. Decision on introducing M.Ed. at AU PG Centre, Kakinada was postponed. Prof. Satyanarayana wanted the university to verify if all the necessary clearances were obtained before staring the course.
