Art, dance and fine arts are the mark of a civilisation and every individual should try to learn these arts for becoming a fully rounded personality, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju has said.
It would be next to impossible to find someone who does not appreciate any form of music and some knowledge of the subject would improve the capacity of the individual to appreciate the nuances of fine arts and help in developing an all-round personality, he said and added that the Department of Music and Dance of the university was proposing to offer short-term certificate courses in keyboard, guitar and sound recording and editing.
“Any person who passed Class VII and is interested in music can join the certificate courses. For persons with greater interest, there are diploma courses in light music and devotional songs. For those who are interested in going beyond the diploma there are advanced diploma courses,” the Vice-Chancellor explained to the media here on Sunday.
For those interested in learning more about the saint composer Annamacharya, there was a diploma course in Annamacharya Sankeertanas and for those interested in getting a basic understanding of dance there was a diploma ‘Nritya Pravesika’. All these were self-financing courses and the admission would be through the Directorate of Admissions, he said.
Increase in seatsThe department was also enhancing the number of seats in MA Music to 20 from the present 10 and there was a proposal to offer an MA Kuchipudi, a two-year programme that was open to anyone with a graduation and knowledge in classical dance, Head of Department of Music and Dance Anuradha said.
The university was proposing to offer a comprehensive and scientific course in astrology and vaastu, this would ensure that the people can take greater informed decisions about their life rather than be dependent on charlatans out to swindle public of their hard earned money. The fee structure and the admission schedule would be announced in due course, Prof G.S.N. Raju said.
