AU campus to have more green buildings

Andhra University campus will have more green buildings promoting environment-friendly construction practices, Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao has said.

Inaugurating a one-day national workshop on ‘Green buildings’ organised by the Department of Architecture on Friday, he said the international students’ hostel was built with the suggestions of S Vijay Kumar as a green building.

Burning less fossil fuels and reducing Greenhouse effect was the major objective behind green buildings, Prof. Nageswara Rao said.

AU College of Engineering principal PS Avadhani spoke on raising temperatures over the last few decades due to global warming, multi-fold increase in the number of vehicles and the challenges of disposing garbage.

Head of the Department Architecture A Revathi Devi, workshop general chair G. Viswanadha Kumar and organising secretary V Sumateja Reddy spoke.

Professor and Dean (Academics) of School of Planning and Architecture Ramesh Srikonda and architects G Srinivas Murthy and Arpan Johari participated in the inaugural.
