Inspector General of Police North Coastal Zone Atul Singh took over as in-charge Commissioner of Police of Visakhapatnam here on Thursday.
Mr. Singh a 1995 batch IPS officer, earlier worked as Superintendent of Police (Visakha rural) in 2002.
The CP’s post has been lying vacant, ever since the earlier commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy was transferred to Telangana as chief of intelligence a few days ago. A number of names have been doing rounds, but so far none had materialised.
Mr. Singh would continue till the new commissioner’s name is announced, sources in the Police Department said.
DIG Visakha range P. Umapathi, who was officiating as in-charge CP, handed over the charge to Mr. Singh.
