A specially designed car arrives at one of the quiet lanes of Seethammadhara. Once it is parked, it turns into a mobile snack counter that dishes out healthy stuff.

Unlike the regular menu, the Vizag Fruit Dessert that serves assorted cut fruits on wheels offers healthy options to those who eagerly queue up in front of the vehicle to grab a quick bite.

A portion of green apple, strawberries, watermelon, green and black grapes, dry grapes and pomegranate seeds garnished with mint leaves gets into a neatly packed disposable cup to devour.

Initiated by BTech graduates N. Rajesh and N. Naresh Krishna and a student-turned-entrepreneur K. Naveen Reddy, the Vizag Fruit Dessert scoops out a range of cool options for the hygiene and health-conscious consumers. “With an investment of ₹50,000 initially, we ventured into the business to promote healthy snacking concept,” says Mr. Reddy, who discontinued his studies.

Apart from regular fruits available in the market, the entrepreneurs source kiwi, dragon pears, plums, black berries and blue berries from Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

While the regular pack of cut fruits is sold at ₹50, the exotic ones are served based on the order at an extra cost. “After initial hiccups, the concept is gradually gaining prominence in the city. Our family members assist in cutting and packing the fruits in a hygienic manner. Once packed in small transparent containers, they are placed in thermocol boxes which can keep the fruits, ice creams, yoghurt, custard, basundi and cream intact for a few hours,” explains Mr. Naresh Krishna.

One can also opt for a cool topping along with 150 gm of assorted cut fruits.

Stalls, home service planned

The Swift Dzire car with designs of fruits painted colourfully on its body heads to neighbourhoods such as the MVP Colony, Gajuwaka, Tenneti Park, Beach Road, Scindia and Seethammadhara on a round trip basis. The team will soon set up canopy stalls at various places and start a home delivery service.
