The future appears to be bright and promising but it is in the hands of the youth to take it forward. Science is a study of natural resources whereas technology stresses on the application of the acquired knowledge.
The quality of life could be defined by making the right choices and gaining a competitive edge through the application of knowledge with the data and resources available.
These were a few views shared by a panel of experts at a student awareness programme organised by The Hindu in association with FIITJEE at Bal Bharati Public School, Deepanjalinagar, NTPC here on Friday. Centre head and trainer B. Gurunadh spoke about choosing various institutes of science and technology and its growing demand. Nearly 5, 24,000 aspirants appeared for IIT for 9,683 seats available. He emphasised on how to gain an edge in competitive exams such as IITJEE, AIEEE, BITSAT, KVPY, NTSE and SAT. He stressed on the aspects like thinking out of the box, application of skills and IQ and being strong in one’s fundamental concepts.
Scientist of NSTL Y.V.N. Chandra Sekhar gave a presentation on ‘science today and beyond’. He explained about the global challenges that influence science such as population, variation in climatic changes, pollution, poverty and other socio-environmental issues. Science can do wonders if one can invest enough time in it, he said. NTPC DGM (HR) emphasised the need for imbibing values while learning. He encouraged the students to dream big and take effective measures to actualise it. “Apart from being knowledgeable, imagination and visualisation will go a long way in achieving the goals.
Capitalise the opportunities that come your way and avoid tasks that are daunting,” he said. Expert trainer B. Subhankar explained about the National Level Exam for school children (NTSE) and encouraged the students to do smart work rather than hard work through effective learning. The session concluded with the felicitation for the toppers, Sahiti Sampath-for scoring IITJEE rank 2468 and AIEE rank 670, K. Vaishnavi IITJEE rank 947 and AIEEE rank 8020 and Subhamoy Mahajan who secured IITJEE rank 748 and AIEEE rank 525.
