J. Vishnu Vardhan is hopeful of participating in the London Olympics’ tennis doubles event. AITA has paired him with Leander Paes and Vishnu Vardhan is expecting the senior partner to give his nod on Wednesday.

The AITA is asking Paes to go to London and since Paes is paired with Sania Mirza to play the mixed doubles too, Vishnu Vardhan said the senior partner might not lose the opportunity of playing in the Olympics.

The Asian Games medallist and Davis Cupper is here to take up training programme for the locals and was much impressed with the talent, the four synthetic courts laid by the GVMC adjacent to the III Town Police Station and the city in general.

Good courts

“The courts are very good though a few facilities like change room are to be provided and with the air connectivity, hotels and other facilities an international event can certainly be held in the city. I will try to get AITA to allot an international event here,” Vishnu Vardhan said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

These are the best courts available outside Hyderabad in the State, he said.

Vishnu Vardhan started the Vardhan Tennis Academy to be supported by G. Jaya Kiran as its director and Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu.

Physio Varma will assist in physical fitness.

‘Good talent’

There is very good talent here. Kamineni Vinay, N. Karthik, Vinay Sharma and S.V. Abhishek are good players but they were forced to go to bigger cities because better coaching and facilities are not available here, said Vishnu Vardhan.

He would like these players to come back to Visakhapatnam and utilise the courts. He would also try to get quality coaches here to train the youngsters, though it was a costly affair.

He also has plans for arranging coaching stints for the trainees in tennis academies in Europe.
