Thanks to the Postal Department, a candidate from the city, who had applied for the post of Junior Trackman in the Railways got a call letter for the written examination, but 12 days after the test was held!
D. Shankar Silaparasetty of Nandagiri Nagar at Akkayyapalem had applied to the Railway Recruitment Cell of East Coast Railway at Bhubaneswar. The examination was scheduled for June 10.
The date on the envelope shows that the letter was posted by the Railways at Bhubaneswar on June 4. The stamping shows that it was received at Akkayyapalem Post Office on June 22 and it was delivered the same day to the addressee. The letter took 18 days to travel a distance of around 400 km.
The Postal Department must have thought ‘better late than never’.
But alas, the candidate has lost a golden opportunity.

Snail mail is perhaps rightly christened because of its so many records for delayed, messed up deliveries and missed mails discovered later that all arrive late. It probably is not serious in most cases but sometimes it is glaringly exasperating. This is perhaps one such example. They might as well wind up this service and leave it to the private sector that does a better job, faster and with fewer errors. The government should do what it does best regulating and leave what it does worst business. Leave it to the private sector to do business and the government can restrict or limit itself at messing up the things that are doing well like the I.I.Ts , IIMs or raking up language issues, messing up with the banks, airways, railways, exports, or messing up foreign affairs, economy and roads, garbage handling, pollution, essentials like power, water and utilities and the list goes on.
