Condemning the unprecedented petrol price hike and the impending surcharge on electricity heavily burdening people, CPI(M) has called on all sections of people to express their resentment by making Thursday's bandh a success.

Extending total support to the bandh, CPI-M district secretary Ch. Narsinga Rao said in a statement the hike would further aggravate the lives people finding making both ends meet difficult. He said people should fight together to make the government rollback the price hike.

The State Government's reported move to levy surcharge would also hit people hard, Mr. Narsinga Rao said. The Left parties in the State had called for the bandh to protest against the twin moves and sought support from workers, employees, traders, business houses, industries, transport sector and educational institutions.

Protest

Insurance Corporation Employees' Union on Wednesday organised a lunch-hour demonstration demanding a rollback of the petrol price hike. Union general secretary N. Ramanachalam described the hike at a time when international crude price was falling as anti-people. He said LIC staff would participate in Thursday's bandh.
