In an effort to improve maintenance of streetlights in the corporation limits, ward-wise tenders will be called.

The earlier system of awarding three, four wards to a contractor had led to several complaints relating to maintenance. The term of the contractors has ended at various times during the current year. The expenditure incurred on maintenance in all the 72 wards barring the Steel Plant was Rs.3.38 crore a year.

“In the new system the tenders will be awarded for maintenance of lights in one ward to a person that too a local one,” Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu told reporters on Monday.

The process of finalising tenders is expected to take one month.
