Good Friday, the historical day of crucifixion of Jesus Christ by the Roman Empire some 2011 years down the line was observed by the 1,000-odd churches and Christian organisations in the city. The nearly 30,000-strong Christians attended church services from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Bishops and Reverends gave meditations on the sacrificial death of Lord Jesus Christ.

Thousands of Christians also visited the tombs of their beloved ones in the cemeteries and cleaned up the burial grounds for offering flowers and garlands to their departed ones on Sunday the day of Resurrection, otherwise called Easter.

This was done to commemorate the event when Mary Magdaline, a prostitute who experienced a spiritual regeneration after meeting Jesus went to the tomb in the wee hours on the day of Easter to meet her resurrected Saviour at the burial ground. P.J. Stephen Paul Ministries took out an impressive ‘Good News Rally' in the city with some 3000 members of the church.

The participants including youth singing songs on the crucifixion of Jesus accompanied by solemn music took out a rally touching the main fares of the city. Pastor Stephen Paul gave a narration on the significance of Good Friday and the redemption wrought by the Lord by his sacrificial death on the cross.

Message

Bishop of United Interior Ministries Rt.Rev.K.R.Singh in a Good Friday message observed that Jesus brought redemption to sin tainted souls by shedding his sinless blood for the spiritual and moral regeneration of mankind. The impact of his saving message on mankind was enormous as every one who trusted him as saviour experienced the hope of eternal life. It was called Good Friday as good happened to mankind.

Several churches were decorated with jasmine flowers and with portraits of a crucified Christ. The churches were also being braced up for the Easter festival celebration on Sunday. Singing and fancy dress competitions would be organised on the day by Sunday School Children.
