Collector M. Veerabrahmaiah has asked political parties to appoint booth-level agents and rectify anomalies, if any, in the list of voters. Except the BJP, no other political party has so far appointed booth-level agents, he has pointed out.
At a meeting with repr esentatives of various political parties on Thursday, Mr. Veerabrahmaiah said the list of voters was prepared after a door-to-door survey from August 24 to October 20, and the voters' list was published on October 31. If the political parties detected anomalies in the list, they could appeal for changes by December 17, he said. According to the list published on October 31, the number of eligible voters enrolled in the district was 15,02,418 and they were all issued photo identity cards. The names of 82,767 ineligible voters were deleted as per the directive of the Election Commission, he said.
Final list
The final list of voters would be published on January 5, 2012, he said, and added that Form-6 was circulated to all colleges in the district for enrolment of students who crossed 18 years of age as on January 1, 2012. Their names too would be included in the final list. In addition to the facility, eligible voters could also register names directly in the website of the Election Commission.
The Collector said that the Commission had introduced a software to correct dual or multiple registrations of voters at various places.
BJP district president P. Sanyasi Raju, Congress representative Y. Ramana Murty, and CPI (M) leader M. Suryanarayana expressed satisfaction with the work of tehsildars and booth-level officials.
