It will offer 50% discount on development charges to consumers

The Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Ltd (APEPDCL) will offer 50% discount on development charges to consumers with unauthorised additional domestic loads if they declare it voluntarily.

In order to encouraging the domestic consumers for regularisation, a special drive will be launched from May 1 to 30. The discount will not be offered if the regularisation is not done during the campaign period.

Chairman and Managing Director H.Y. Dora said on Tuesday that AP Electricity Regulatory Commission had agreed to the proposal of distribution companies for regularisation of unauthorised additional domestic loads at 50% discount of approved development charges at the rate of ₹ 600 per kilo watts instead of ₹ 1200.

Security deposit

Mr. Dora said such consumers had to pay the security deposit as applicable at present norms for additional load.

It is observed that most of the consumers of APEPDCL are having more contracted load than the actual connected load on their premises due to adding of load from time to time by various gadgets/appliances (viz. air-conditioners, water heaters and water motor pumps) without informing and regularising the extra load with the authorities.

Mr. Dora said the unexpected increase in load could get the electrical network overloaded.

Because of voltage fluctuations, low voltage complaints, and failure of distribution transformers may affect the quality of power supply to other genuine consumers of surrounding areas. In some cases, the existing metering system would also be inadequate to register exact consumption due to additional load – an unauthorised use of power supply.
