All the women employees in the State should take part in all-India strike on September 2 and send a message to the Union government and State government that anti-labour policies would not be tolerated any longer, State convenor of CITU Working Women Coordination Committee Dhana Lakshmi said. She was speaking at the sixth State-level convention of working women organised by CITU-Greater Visakha Nagar Committee at the Platinum Jubilee Guest House, Andhra University, on Sunday.

Main demands

Regularisation of contract employees, social benefits to workers along with a minimum wages of Rs.18,000 per month were some of the main demands made by the union members. The committee condemned the arrest of trade union leaders participating in agitations and suppression of democratic rights.

City convenor of CITU Working Women Coordination Committee M. Kameswari said that the working condition in factories such as Brandix India Apparel City was getting worse and the State government failed to take any corrective step.
