Supporters of Sundarapu Vijay Kumar, an aspirant for the TDP ticket from Elamanchili Assembly constituency, went on a rampage attacking the party office there and burning the furniture on Sunday evening.
Reports reaching here said hundreds of supporters of Mr. Kumar, including some sarpanches, took out a rally from his house. They gathered at the main road in the town and stopped traffic. Later, they went to the party office near the police station, attacked it, broke the furniture and set it on fire.
Mr. Kumar has been the TD constituency in-charge for nearly two years.
They threatened to quit the party if ticket was denied to Mr. Kumar. There was no official announcement on the allotment of the TDP ticket. However, the restive workers came to know that the ticket was being allotted to Pendurti MLA P. Rameshbabu.
The MLA quit Congress along with former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and joined the TDP in the presence of party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He was reportedly promised the Visakhapatnam North ticket. However, in its alliance with BJP, TDP earmarked the seat to that party though there was no official announcement.
