D. Radha Mani and P. Sharan Kumar from the city emerged winners of the Anchors War 2012 which concluded at a city hotel on Sunday. They beat the 70 contestants from Mumbai, Amalapuram, Annavaram, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam in a two-day contest.

They participated in a ramp walk, showed off their communication skills and went through a talent test round to take home a memento and a cash award of Rs. 10,000 each.

Scholarship

Radha Mani and Sharan Kumar also received the super anchor title in the female and male categories respectively and won a scholarship for a one-year fashion course at Saikrupa Institute of Fashion Technology. “I always wanted to become an anchor and now I have an opportunity to prove my talent,” said Radha Mani. On winning the title, Sharan Kumar said “Initially, I just wanted to participate and I am very excited that I won the title in male category.”

MLA and film producer Malla Vijaya Prasad, one of the guests during the final round of the contest said that many people would like to hold the mike and compere a show but very few would be successful in the art of anchoring. Responding spontaneously to a given situation plays an important role in hosting a show, he said.

Star maker and theatre personality L. Satyanand and psychotherapist M.S. Rao were the judges of the contest.

Basic qualification

Addressing the final six contestants, Mr. Satyanand said that the basic qualifications for an anchor included good listening skills, communication skills, involvement, confidence, style and flexibility. RJ of 92.7 Big FM Veeru Mama, organiser of the event, told the contestants that when he started his career seven years ago, he was getting just Rs. 200 per show but was now charging around Rs. 25, 000 for hosting a programme of just four hours. So, the job is quite rewarding, he said. He was happy to see that the city had good number of talented youngsters.

CMD of Bommarillu group R.R. Raja, NRI Movie fame Shravya Reddy, anchor Suhasini Anand and Rana Uppalapati of Fast Track Showroom were among those present.
