District-level science fair gets under way at SFS School

The advantages of automatic drainage cleaner were explained by U. Dinesh and Sheik Gowsya, Class X students of ZP High School, Kothavalasa. They said the unit serves two purposes. One, the cleaner reduces the drudgery of sanitation workers and the second, it adds to the Swachh Bharat drive.

In the three-day district-level Inspire Science Exhibition 2017-2018 that began at SFS School on Sunday, close to 620 students from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and East Godavari districts participated. A majority of them were seen briefing about the amount of groundwork went into each project and the benefits derived from it.

The use of biochar in cooking and farming was highlighted by G. Laxmi of ZPHS, Ramabhadrapuram mandal through her science model ‘biochar stove and agriculture importance’. She strongly recommends the use of biochar as it improves soil fertility and reduces the use of chemical fertilisers.

Among a line of models that dot the classrooms on the campus, automatic street light controlling system, eco-friendly village stove, balanced diet and organic farming form a part of the exhibits put up by those studying from Classes VI to X.

HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao inaugurated the fair.

District Education Officer B. Lingeswara Reddy said the best projects at the district-level Inspire exhibition would be selected for the State-level competition scheduled to be held on February 21 in Visakhapatnam.

The exhibition will be open to visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
