Ever recorded your voice on a plastic glass and then heard it play? What it is the shape of sound? Many such interesting experiments were demonstrated at the interactive workshop by Zee Learn Gakken Science Academy organised for students of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan at VUDA Children's Theatre on Friday.
Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan Educational Society became the first school in the city to implement the Zee Learn Gakken Science Academy. The academy's inaugural ceremony was attended by more than 100 parents and over 500 students.
The Chief Guest for the ceremony was Hirofumi Yumoto, Head of Gakken Science Creation Institute, Japan, the partner of Zee Learn Gakken Science Academy. Rajesh Pandya, Vice President (Asia Pacific), Gakken Educational Co. and Hiromitsu Funami, GM, Gakken Educational Co. were the Guest of Honour.
Hirofumi Yumoto, who is also a known TV personality of Japan, demonstrated the experiments before a large group of enthusiastic students. Whether it was the gramophone recorder made up of a plastic cup, the floating ball experiment put to life, or the crosscopter, the audience was simply amazed at seeing experiential learning in practice. On the occasion, Vasu Prakash Chitturi, Director of the school, said that the trail blazing experiments would help the students to develop interest in scientific learning by doing with their own hands. Through this academy, Japanese method of science study would be at the disposal of the students, he said.
Easy to learn
Though schools have been using the digital content to engage students in the classrooms but this new methodology will be a leap ahead with its hands-on learning experience for students. This method is aimed to enable the students in understanding concepts by self-exploration and questioning and bring about a revolutionary change in the learning outcomes.
In its endeavour to promote development of scientific thinking among children, the academy is joining hands with schools, Mr. Yumoto said. In order to build awareness about the programme, the academy is conducting free demonstrations for schools which can be booked at www.zeelearngakken.com.
