Intricate patterns of ‘Kolam’ (muggu) spread over earthy tones of silk saris and depiction of historical and mythological characters in silken weaves branded as ‘Charitra’ form a part of the Co-optex’s month-long ‘Dasara and Deepavali rebate sale’ that began on Thursday.

From harmonious neutral colours to the effervescent combination of light and dark contrasting shades and subdued tones, the collection has an array of saris in different textures, dress material, dhotis, shirts and bedspreads, among other products.

With the introduction of a series of ‘Menpattu’ (refined silk) saris for the festive season, the in-house manufacturing unit of the showroom has brought out three variations to draw the attention of the younger generation --‘Charitra’, ‘Kolam’ and ‘Maharani’. “Inspired by Zamindari families located in remote villages of Tamil Nadu, we have poured life into ‘Maharani’ weaves. However, this new collection will be added to the existing stocks in a couple of weeks,” says T.N. Venkatesh, managing director of Co-optex, Chennai.

Besides an assorted variety of cream and beige shades, the colour palette ranges from dark to lighter tones, delicately woven in contemporary designs. For those who do not prefer heavy silk fabrics, the neatly stacked counters provide an alternative solution.

Unique tag

With 30 per cent rebate on handloom products and 20 per cent discount on powerloom material apart from a ‘Thanga mazhai thittam’ (gold scheme), a lucky draw and a credit sale option in store for the shoppers, the fabrics come with a unique tag that contain the details of the time and effort taken by the weaver to complete a particular product.

Since the turnover last year touched Rs.10.32 crore in Vijayawada region, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and West Bengal, this time the organising team plans to double the business across the States.

The sale, inaugurated by District Collector N. Yuvaraj, will be on at the showroom between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. till October- end.
