An advanced method for knee replacement

The fifth generation computer navigation knee replacement surgery not only provides perfect alignment and perfect fitting of artificial knee joint, needed for perfect functioning, but also ensures ligament balancing and right tension of ligaments around the joint, an orthopaedic surgeon of the city, I. Satish Raju, who has undergone training in the computer guided knee navigation and hip navigation surgeries using OrthoPilot gadget at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glosgow, said on Sunday.

“Compared to the third generation computer navigation knee replacement method, the fifth generation is much advanced and has simplified process and more importantly takes care of ligaments also,” Dr. Satish Raju said. The OrthoPilot was installed at the Omni RK Hospital here, first in South India, he said. Dr. Satish Raju has undergone training under Prof. Frederic Picard of France who has invented the computer navigation method after 13 years of research, and Dr. Kamal Deep who has performed a large number of such surgeries at the Glasgow institute, which is noted for performing the largest number of knee replacement surgeries. Prof. Picard invented the method and performed the first surgery on a human in 1997. B. Braaun of Germany has been manufacturing machine since 2007.
