The road leading to the AU College of Engineering (AUCE) exhibition grounds, the venue of Vizag Fest -2017, was chock-a-block with vehicles of various kinds on Sunday evening.

The stretch between BRTS main road at Maddilapalem and the exhibition ground was full with motorists parking their vehicles beside the road as the vehicle parking was full. Nonetheless, visitors had a gala time as the exhibition had everything to offer to different age groups.

The Abdul Kalam Science Exhibition section witnessed huge crowds. Andhra Medical College (AMC) put up a few stalls on various aspects of health and disease. The stall set up by the Anatomy Department with a few specimens of the skull, its cross section with the brain inside, stages in the formation and growth of the skull was a big draw among students. Boys and girls were bold enough to hold the skull specimens with their hands, as medicos of AMC explained to them about its functions.

Young men and women were seen enquiring about various aspects of organ donation at the ‘Jeevan Dan’. The AMC students told them about eye, heart, liver donation and the time within which the organs should be harvested. The stall on diabetes and self-care in diabetes was another big draw with people asking about diet control. There was a stall on blood donation by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and a BMI chart for different age groups.

Book festival

A book festival, a stall put up by public sector organisations, food stalls, commercial stalls, selling a range of household goods, clothes, traditional medicine, automobile companies and real estate dealers were the other attractions. There is a main dais, where cultural programmes and meetings are being organised every day. GVMC Commissioner M. Harinarayan inaugurated a short film theatre at Vizag Fest on Sunday evening. He went round the book fest, public sector pavilion and the science exhibition sections and commended the organisers.

Film director C. Umamaheswara Rao called upon short film makers not to fall into the trap of commercial cinema but to choose social issues as their themes.

Around 50,000 people visited the fest on Sunday, according to Vizag Fest secretary A. Aja Sarma.
