Andhra Medical College and the AMC Old Students Association (AMCOSA) honoured its alumni who retired as Principals of the college and functioned as the Director of Medical Education (DME) at a function organised at AMCOSA hall on Friday as part of the 90 foundation day (granite jubilee) of the college.

Also honoured were the present DME G. Shanta Rao who also worked as Principal in the past and present Principal N. Kalpana Subrahmanyam.

AMC has the distinction of one of its alumni and former Principal L. Suryanarayana being the first Vice-Chancellor of NTR University of Health Sciences and another former Principal C.V.K. Rao working of Registrar and Chief Rector of UHS in its early years. He was also DME in the late 80s.

Three of its Principals — R. Sasiprabha, T. Raviraju, K. Vishnu Prasad — were elevated as DMEs and its alumni T. Venkateswara Rao, Bhaskar Rao and G. Saigopal worked as DMEs. Out of the 24 other farmer Principals, 12 attended the function while Dr. Suryanarayana and others could not attend due to advanced age and other reasons.

Those who received the felicitations were former Principals G. Nirmala, K. Veerabhadraiah, Y. Perindevi, M. Sriram, K. Surya Rao, R. Ahikrishna, K. Venugopala Rao, R. Sasiprabha, T.P. Gandhi, I. Sunila Naidu, C.V. Rao, G. Bhagya Rao and K. Vishnu Prasad and former DMEs C.V.K. Rao and G. Saigopal.

The speakers at the function hailed AMC as an institution that gave them a good life and considered it as their mother.

Dr. Shanta Rao said teachers of the institution had given their students a good life apart from making them good doctors.

Dr. Sasiprabha, who is also president of AMCOSA, observed that the foundation laid by several legendary personalities in the past made the college one of the best in the country.

Vision of the predecessors and their selfless service saw the present generation enjoying the fruits, Superintendent of KGH M. Madhusudhana Babu said.

Secretary of AMCOSA Ramamurthy requested the DME to allot a piece of land adjacent to AMCOSA building for constructing a two-storied parking lot and office and recreational rooms.
