All trains arrive on time in city!

May 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

It was a pleasant surprise to see passengers, arriving by various trains, beaming as they came out of Visakhapatnam Railway Station on Sunday. They had no complaints of the holding up of trains at the fag end of their journey, between Duvvada and Visakhapatnam.

Thanks to the ongoing drive ‘Humsafar Saptaah’ of the Ministry of Railways, all the trains arrived and departed from Visakhapatnam Junction at their scheduled time. Punctuality and ticket checking drive was undertaken across the Zonal Railways on Satarakat Diwas on Sunday.

This indicates that proper coordination and cooperation among the different zones could ensure punctuality of the trains to a large extent.

The shift supervisors ensured 100 per cent punctuality of mail/express and passenger trains and intensive ticket checking drives were conducted to check ticketless travel.

On an average 100 passenger trains operate either originate/terminate or pass through Visakhapatnam Station.

“All the trains are running on time today and there are no delays. The penalties collected, number of passengers booked and other details of the fortress checking drive (ticket checking) would be known late in the night when the figures are consolidated,” Station Manager (Commercial) C. Ramakrishna, said when contacted on Sunday evening.

Humsafar Saptaah is being observed from May 26 with each day dedicated to a particular theme. Swachchta Diwas (cleanliness day), Satkaar Diwas (for inspection of catering establishments and drinking water facilities at stations and in trains) and Sewa Diwas (review of all public grievances) were already observed during the past three days.

Inspection of railway colonies would be done by the officers concerned to ensure cleanliness as also upkeep and maintenance of the quarters on Saamanjasya Diwas, a day long exercise, to be undertaken on Monday.

Interaction

On the next day, (Sanyojan Diwas), all DRMs and GMs would hold meetings and seminars with all major freight traffic customers to inform them about various reforms and policy initiatives to improve rail transportation.

On the final day on June 1 (Sanchaar Diwas), all DRMs and GMs would review the activities undertaken during the week and hold media conferences to disseminate information to the public about the achievements of Indian Railways.
