He takes charge as new Collector of Visakhapatnam

New district Collector Solomon Arokia Raj said here on Wednesday that he would try to improve the system and implement government schemes with proper plan of action after understanding the district.

Mr. Arokia Raj, Collector of Chittoor, was transferred to Visakhapatnam in the place of V. Sheshadri, who went on deputation to Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi.

Earlier, he took charge from Joint Collector and Collector in-charge Pravin Kumar. Mr. Arokia Raj said his previous stint in the district as Sub-Collector of Paderu (2002-04) provided with an idea and Agency was always a special focus area. When he was Sub-Collector health, education, and women and child welfare received more attention, he recalled. Whatever work was done providing basic amenities would always show some gaps, he said.

The new Collector assured to deal firmly with the land grabbers, who became more active due to the ongoing strike by revenue employees and officers. He has experience with the land issues as he worked as the Joint Collector of Rangareddy and also has a good Joint Collector here, Mr. Arokia Raj said.

On implementing Telugu as official language, a task he has accomplished well in Chittoor district, he would first discuss with the district officials and would not implement the system unilaterally. The district officials and representatives of employees’ associations who are on strike demanding a unified State, called on Mr. Arokia Raj and welcomed him with bouquets. Additional Joint Collector Y. Narasimha Rao, CEO of ZP G.V. Reddy, RDOs and other officials, vice-president of AP Revenue Services Association S. Nageswara Reddy, greeted him.
