Two cheetahs, a male and a female, will soon enthral visitors at the Indira Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam.
The African cheetahs, which were brought from the Czech Republic, were quarantined at the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad. Zoo Curator G. Ramalingam and other officials were present when they arrived here on Saturday afternoon.
Zoo doctor V. Srinivas, Forest Section Officer Satyam and two animal keepers accompanied the animals from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam.
“We gave them glucose and polybion in water to de-stress them after the long journey. Their acclimatisation to the new environment could take about 10 days after which they would be open to public view,” Dr. Srinivas said.
The male cheetah named ‘Dark’ was born in 2003 and the female ‘Muniya’ was born in 2008. This is the first time that cheetahs are brought to the Vizag Zoo and they are sure to draw a number of visitors.
