‘Mere development of facilities no answer to reducing number of accidents’

Minister for Infrastructure and Investments Ganta Srinivasa Rao has said that mere development of infrastructure facilities like roads and flyovers was no answer to the bringing down number of accidents.

Participating as chief guest at the valedictory of ‘Arrive Alive’, a campaign for safer roads organised by the city police, here on Tuesday, the Minister said that the Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad was created to ease the traffic congestion but it was seen that the sons of many celebrities were losing their lives on this road.

He attributed accidents to scant respect for rules among motorists like jumping the red signal and over-speeding,

The number of vehicles in the city has registered a steep increase over the years but the infrastructure facilities have not grown proportionately. Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy spoke about the various programmes organised as part of the campaign.
