Muvvalavanipalem, popularly known as MVP colony, with a population of about 70,000 residents is a world by itself. It is said to be Asia’s largest residential township with a healthy mix of the City’s elite, large student population, political leaders, retired CEOs of corporate companies of both public and private sector and wealthy people in the evening of their lives whose children live abroad.
The ambience of the township is reflected in the palatial houses, multiple parks managed by Resident Welfare Associations, a canopy of greenery dotting the lanes and by-lanes and serenity and tranquillity pervading the land of delicious eateries that infuses life into the lively evenings.
The day in MVP colony starts with morning walkers taking to the streets and parks and walking tracks in the silence of the wee hours of the morning. The morning walkers resemble a military regiment marching through the streets reassuring the people that they are very much there for them. Suddenly the roadside tea stalls bubble with life as scores of morning walkers stop to sip a cup of tea with people in their neighbourhood and co-morning walkers.
They exchange pleasantries and discuss business while others enquire engagements of the day and so on. The township is divided into 16 sectors and each sector has residents’ welfare associations, ladies clubs, youth clubs and associations cooking up some activity or the other and finding occasions for social gatherings.
Dr.A.V.N. Chetty, a noted ophthalmologist living in sector 1 for 17 years, says that under his presidency, the local park had been developed. Life is peaceful and by and large problem-free. For vested interests and anti-social elements, prime lands of community parks had been an enticing factor -- trying to grab them or take control in some form or the other. Some residents had been a stumbling block for the operation of underground drainage system as they are yet to fall in line for conversion of their home drainage to connect with the underground drainage system which is almost on a completion stage.
Education
The township has excellent education institutions. The Alwardas group of colleges and several other private corporate colleges cater to the educational requirements of the local residents. No child needs go out of the township to study right from nursery till post graduation. Besides, GITAM University is also quite close to MVP colony. Both public and private transport is available to reach the university. It is also close to the IT hub located near Rushikonda.
The colony has innumerable student hostels, paying guest accommodation and student cooperative hostels where hundreds of students and employees of IT hub live. The township also has two excellent cancer hospitals, Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, nursing homes, multi-speciality hospitals and expert multi-speciality doctors residing in the township itself.
Sagar Morning Walkers Association president Rama Rao describes MVP colony as the best and most beautiful in Asia. The colony is well connected to the Beach Road, Simhachalam devasthanam and the national highway. The colony has very good provisional stores, banks and educational institutions. Life is very comfortable here. Rythu Bazzar offers healthy food stuff, vegetables and fruits and women love it for all the goodies available in it.
The township is also home for several political leaders including Union Minister of State for Human Resources Daggubati Purandeswari, State Minister for Infrastructure and Ports Ganta Sreenivasa Rao, MLAs Velagapudi Rama Krishnababu, Tynala Vijaya Kumar and Chintalapudi Venkataramaiah.
It also has a Girijan Bhavan which showcases tribal culture and TTD kalyanamandapam and government offices complex which houses the SC,ST,BC corporations, Girijan Cooperative Corporation, ITDA camp office, APFDC, DRDA and the Woman and Child Welfare department, Income Tax Bhavan, CBI and office of the Post Master General.
Concern
Velagapudi Rama Krishnababu, MLA says that the matter of concern in the colony was the increasing incidents of house burglaries and chain snatchings in the affluent colony.
The colony is a target for robberies as several homes have old people staying with no protection of any sort. The police need to step up vigilance and patrolling even during the day as daylight robberies were being reported.
