60 activists arrested at Collectorate and freed later
Aasha workers, under the aegis of A.P. Voluntary Health Workers Union (Aasha), an affiliate of CITU, staged a dharna at the Collectorate on Friday seeking a solution to their demands. Honorary district president of the union P. Mani said there were written orders from the State Commissioner and the DMHO to the medical officers that the Aasha workers should be paid in accordance with the work done by them, the orders were not being implemented. She demanded immediate payment of the wage arrears payable to the workers. Their other demands include: payment of minimum wages, reinstatement of those Aasha workers who were terminated from services ‘illegally'.. Meanwhile, the Two Town Police arrested Mani and 59 others for staging the dharna.They were later released.
