Despite hailing from a non-filmy background, Monica Srivastav says she is quite confident to make her presence felt in the entertainment space.

With her recently released debut film Aa Mugguru to her credit, the city-based aspiring actor says she is conscious about choosing the right script that makes her acting skills stand out.

After completing B.Com at Dr. L. Bullayya College, she headed to Bengaluru for an MBA. “It was then I started getting modelling assignments and opportunity to do commercials, including the IPL-2014 advertisement,” says the heroine in an interview with The Hindu . It was much later that she took part in the auditions for the film Aa Mugguru . “Director Mandapaka Srinivas auditioned and selected me for the lead role. I liked the story a lot as it dealt with child labour. Though I am not new to facing the camera, acting needs a different kind of skills and I am glad to venture into a thriller genre in the first place,” reasons Monica.

As long as the script is interesting, Monica says she does not mind doing a film in any language. “Right now I am learning Kannada because my next flick is a Kannada movie starring opposite Ajay Rao, popularly known as ‘Sandalwood Krishna’,” she says, adding that she considers Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra her role models.

Apart from movies gym is another zone that draws the attention of the upcoming actress. “I used to be an athlete in my school days. Though I don’t have any diet restriction, I follow a fitness regimen and hit the gym regularly. I think it helps me stay in shape,” she says.

In a highly competitive world, Monica says the ability to deal with people and competing from within will do the trick. “In any field, you should not compete with others but with yourself as it helps one push boundaries and reach greater heights,” she sums up.
