Art lovers in the city are in for a treat at the ongoing exhibition of paintings by Kattakuri Ravi at Visakha Heritage Museum in the city.

The paintings will be on display till Sunday, and the art lovers, connoisseurs and collectors, who have missed it should rush to have a look at Ravi’s latest works, which are colourfully different from his earlier works. Deviating from his mainstay of depicting women where the white-balance ruled the canvas, the new ones are more colourful, bold, expressive and has a 3D effect.

On why he has deviated, Ravi says, “women are still my base subject. Earlier, my focus was mainly on single women and nature, and now it’s women and relationship and that calls for more expression. I have brought in more moods in my paintings,” he said.

On being more colourful, the painter who graduated from the fine arts college in Andhra University and did his MFA from Viswa Bharathi University, Santiniketan, said he was influenced by Madhubani paintings during his stay at Santiniketan.

“The ancient form of Madhubani paintings is not only colourful and bold but there is a lot of line drawings. And my work mainly hinges on the same concept,” he said.

Ravi will be travelling to Switzerland to exhibit his paintings at the International Art and Cultural Exchange programme in Zurich from August 1 to 27.

Earlier, his painting ‘Indian woman’ was selected for display at the Olympic Fine Arts Gallery at the Beijing Games.
